Several people nominated for cabinet positions in the incoming administration of US President-elect Donald Trump and several members of his White House team have received bomb threats.

The FBI said it had received several bomb threats and fake phone calls to gather police at the homes of the targets.

At least nine people have been threatened, including those nominated for the positions of secretary of defense, housing, agriculture and labor in the incoming administration of Trump. The list also includes Trump's nominee for US ambassador to the United Nations.

The threats were made on Tuesday night and Wednesday. Police are investigating the threats.

Trump's transition team spokeswoman Carolyn Levitt said Trump's appointees and those living with them have been the target of violent and un-American threats.

Carolyn added that several people have been targeted. Law enforcement agencies have taken swift action to ensure their safety.

The FBI and Carolyn Levitt did not release the names of any of the people who received the bomb threats.

The family home of New York Republican Congresswoman Alice Stefanik, who was nominated by Trump to be the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, was threatened with a bomb.

Stefanik's office said she had been notified. She was traveling from Washington to New York to celebrate Thanksgiving with her husband and three-year-old son.

Trump's nominee for Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth reported receiving the threat in an X-ray message. He said a police officer came to his home yesterday morning. His seven children were asleep at the time. They informed him of the pipe bomb threat.

Lee Zeldin, Trump's nominee to be administrator of the US Environmental Protection Agency, reported receiving a "pipe bomb" threat at his home. He said the threat included a pro-Palestinian message.

Lee Zeldin said he and his family were not home at the time of the threat. He thanked local officials for their quick action.

Brooke Rollins, Trump's nominee for Secretary of Agriculture, Scott Turner, and Lori Chavez-DeRemer, Trump's nominee for Secretary of Housing, have all reported receiving similar threats.

Florida Republican Congressman Matt Gaetz has also received threats. He recently withdrew his nomination for the Trump administration's Attorney General position amid fierce controversy and criticism.

In a statement, the White House said that the threats have been reported to President Joe Biden.
