Argentine superstar Lionel Messi has won the Landon Donovan MVP Award for the 2024 season in Major League Soccer (MLS). The award was announced on December 6. Messi earned the honor for his outstanding performance of 20 goals and 15 assists. He beat out Portland Timbers' Evander, D.C. United's Christian Benteke, Columbus Crew's Cucho Hernandez and his Inter Miami teammate Luis Suarez.
The 37-year-old Messi scored 20 goals and provided 15 assists in just 19 games this season. This is the third time in MLS history that a player has achieved the feat of 20 goals and 15 assists. Previously, Carlos Vela of LAFC achieved the feat in 2019 and Sebastian Giovinco of Toronto FC in 2015.
